Terms and Definitions Process
Rules
Recruitment Rules:
- Fraternity membership is limited to all enrolled male
students of Texas State, regardless of age or race. Non-student
Faculty, Staff or Community residents may be initiated as
"honorary initiates" at the discretion of the
National Headquarters.
- Potential New Members must have a cumulative GPA of 2.25
or higher to accept an invitation to membership from a fraternity.
- No man admitted conditionally or on contract with Texas
State, nor any man currently on academic probation with
the university, shall be permitted to join an IFC Fraternity,
regardless of the Fraternity's prior academic record, until
that man becomes in good standing with the university.
- Silence is defined as a period of time in which no contact
can be made between a Potential New Member and a member,
alumnus, or associate of a fraternity.
- The following periods of silence will be observed during
Formal Recruitment week:
- From the close of each Recruitment party to 8:00 a.m.
the following day.
- From the close of the Recruitment party on the last
day of Formal Recruitment to the conclusion of Bid Drop.
- "After hours" parties held during periods of
silence are prohibited.
- Any Potential New Member, who is caught at an “After Hours”
social event, during Formal
Recruitment, automatically forfeits the privilege of rushing
until the following semester.
- Alcohol shall be prohibited in all Chapter activities
during the Formal Recruitment period.
- Social Functions with alcohol are prohibited from the
first day of formal recruitment (recruitment presentations)
through the end of IFC Recruitment, until such time as Potential
New Members have accepted a bid to join a Fraternity. This
will include road-trips, gatherings at bars, late-night
parties at remote locations, and lunches or dinners, with
Potential New Members. No alcohol may be present when
members and/or agents of the fraternity and Potential New
Members are together for these or any related activities.
Any and all known violations will be reported to the IFC
Judicial Board for an investigation, and swift punishment,
which may include any or all of the following: loss of
social, or Suspension from IFC.
- Alcohol may not be displayed at the fraternity house or
approved Recruitment locations, Including rooms in which
the Potential New Member is allowed to enter during Formal
Recruitment week.
- Members and/or Potential New Members may not attend a
Recruitment function if intoxicated.
