Dear Potential New Members,

Congratulations on your acceptance to Texas State University—San Marcos! I hope you are as excited as we are about the upcoming Spring 2007Semester. Greek Life at Texas State is stronger than ever and we are encouraging you to be apart of it. Members of the Greek organizations are weaved into almost every possible aspect of college life here at Texas State, including student government, the athletics department, and the exclusive deans list. Greek leaders at Texas State strive to be the best in every field of study and activity.

Academics are the most important aspect of each fraternal organization on campus. After all, the primary purpose for attending a university is to further ones education. The IFC has created an incredible new Academic Advising Program to match a faculty/staff member with a fraternity to assist in their academic needs and success. Though grades have been a challenge in the past, the fraternities are acting to influence the present and future!

Community Service and Philanthropy are also a major component of how Greek life is represented here in San Marcos. Every organization has at least one and in most cases many organizations that they work with that assist in creating a better community locally as well as nation wide. Just this past year the Greek community provided more hours of service and more financial assistance than any other student organization on campus combined. This goes to show we don't just talk about serving others we act!

By joining a fraternal organization, you will be participating in an honored tradition that has been taking place on campuses all over the country for over two centuries. You will be involved in life changing experiences, along with making life long friendships. Personally, joining a fraternity was the best decision I could have made coming to college. It has given me a better understand of responsibility, along with an improved grasp of time management. I have learned how to respect and work well with others. Finally, I have grown up more in my first semester as a member of a fraternal organization than I did in four years of high school.

If you are looking for a great college experience, as well as a way to improve your grades, and make lifelong friendships, I encourage you to go through the recruitment program with the IFC at Texas State. Remember, with just one registration form, an envelope and a stamp you can open the door to a new a defining chapter in your life! Please feel free to seek me out when you come for Orientation or Paws Preview in the IFC Office, 4th Floor, LBJ Student Center.
