Sigma Delta Lambda prides itself in holding the highest academic standards for its sisters. In the Spring of 2003, Sigma Delta Lambda had the highest chapter and new member GPA in the Multicultural Greek Council, and in the Spring of 2004, SDL had the highest new member GPA out of all sororities and fraternities on campus. Incentives are provided for doing well academically. The sorority has the 3.0 Club, which is exclusively for members who have a Texas State GPA of a 3.0 or higher. A dinner is held in their honor during the semester and they are recognized as part of the elite. Congratulations to the Fall 2007 3.0 Club: Glenda Molina Adriana Montez Cristina Ruiz Sisters who make the Dean’s List receive a discount on dues each semester, and members who earn a 4.0 GPA are rewarded with a larger discount. The sister with the highest GPA in the sorority is exempt from paying dues for that semester. Congratulations to the sisters who made the Dean’s List for the Fall 2004 semester: Megan Arredondo Priscilla Delgado Deborah Duran Jennifer Garcia Angela Maldonado Cristina Palacios Cristina Ruiz One particular attribute the sorority is especially proud of is having three sisters who have been awarded Rockefeller Brothers Fund Fellowships. The Rockefeller Brothers Fund is a non-profit organization based in New York City that awards fellowships to 25 minority college students nation-wide each year who are planning to become teachers. The fellowship provides funds for graduate school totaling over $22,000. In 2001, Esther Tinajero (Delta Class) was awarded the fellowship. In 2003, Danielle Alvarado (Theta Class) followed with this award. And in 2004, Priscilla Delgado (Mu Class) received this prestigious honor as well. Sigma Delta Lambda’s goal is to provide a support network for women in higher education and help them succeed in earning their college degrees. Several of our sisters have graduated with honors and have pursued graduate studies. Each semester our graduating seniors are honored with a senior farewell ceremony where they receive a sorority stole to wear at graduation. Congratulations to our December 2007 graduates: Abigail Ayala Darcell Castillo Alicia Villarreal In the coming semesters, Sigma Delta Lambda will continue to strive for academic excellence in higher education.
