History

The first chapter Of Sigma Delta Lambda was established at  Texas State University– San Marcos on September 26, 1996. Our eleven founders felt that Texas State was lacking in an organization which provided a support network geared to help Latina women succeed. Vickie Villasana took the initiative to find out what it would take to form a sorority.

Together the eleven ladies formed a unique sisterhood. Many others believed in the same dream and joined this new organization.  On March 1, 1997 this new sisterhood was officially recognized as Sigma Delta Lambda. Within six months the sorority had grown to over sixty members.

On September 11,1998, Victoria Lopez received the certificate of incorporation from the Secretary of the State of Texas. This certificate recognized sigma delta lambda as Sigma Delta Lambda National Sorority, Inc.
