HISTORY OF GOLDEN KEY
Golden Key is an internationally recognized academic honor society dedicated to excellence. Membership is by invitation only to those students who earn this outstanding academic distinction. The goals of the Society are to recognize and encourage scholastic achievement and excellence in all undergraduate fields of study, to unite with faculty and administrators in developing and maintaining high standards of education, to provide economic assistance to outstanding members by means of both undergraduate and graduate scholarships and to promote scholastic achievement and voluntary service.

Golden Key National Honor Society is an international, nonprofit organization with 260 collegiate chapters at major colleges and universities across the United States, Australia, Malaysia, Canada and South Aftrica. Leaders in higher education, business and public service are honorary members of Golden Key and support the Society.

The Society was founded at Georgia State University on November 29, 1977 by a group of highly motivated undergraduate students. Since that time, Golden Key has established itself as a positive force in higher education.

The Texas State chapter of Golden Key was chartered April 28, 1982.

More than 1.2 million lifetime members and 12,000+ honorary members are proud of their association with this dynamic organization.

Golden Key is governed by a board of directors, a council and delegates to the annual convention. A trained, professional staff is dedicated to the Society's chapters and its individual members throughout the year. Golden Key has a permanent headquarters to keep members and alumni in touch no matter where they may be.

The Society's constitution strictly prohibits discrimination on the basis of race, color, sex, religion, national origin, handicap, age, sexual orientation or social status.
