History

In November, 1993, ten students representing Hispanic organizations at the TSU campus gathered to share their culture at the annual homecoming talent show. Because of an award winning performance, Grupo Folklorico de TSU emerged into a student campus organization. Since its inception, it has shared in much success and has performed throughout the University and its surrounding community.

Presentations showcased in the past few years include: Semana de La Raza, Multicultural Diversity Month, Cinco de Mayo, Latino Leadership Conference, International Fest, Cesar Chavez Day, and our Annual Spring Show.

Each year the group hosts the annual "La Feria de San Marcos" Folklorico competition. Over 600 participants throughout the state of Texas as well as the United States Participate in this event. During the Spring semester, Grupo Folklorico de TSU also hosts an annual Spring Performance along with the Mariachi de TSU.

With a new school year beginning, the group is already planning on hosting and attending workshops for dance instruction in tropical, salsa, pre-hispanico and of course folklorico!!
