Recruitment
Registered Student Organizations shall have the privilege
of recruiting new members from the Texas State student body,
whether through times established by a governing council or
on their own, either on the Texas State campus or elsewhere,
provided that they adhere to all university policies, including
but not limited to the following:
- Functions sponsored by the organization or any person
acting on behalf of the organization for the purpose of
recruitment shall be free of alcoholic beverages or any
controlled substances.
- The use of intimidation by either secluding the person
being recruited or using inaccurate information to persuade
a person to accept membership shall be prohibited.
- Registered Student Organizations must verify that students
who are potential new members are currently enrolled and
in good academic standing with Texas State University-San
Marcos. Students who are on academic probation, who have
been conditionally admitted to Texas State, or who are early
admit students concurrently enrolled in a high school, may
not be offered membership.
Utilization of Campus Facilities
Registered Student Organizations will have the privilege
of utilizing university facilities for meetings, functions,
programs, and other appropriate activities provided that proper
reservation forms are completed through the facility management
and that all policies of facility use are followed. Failure
to comply with facility use guidelines may restrict an organization
from future use of that and other related facilities.
Solicitation and Posting
Registered Student Organizations will have the privilege
of utilizing designated posting areas for publicizing meetings
functions, programs, and other appropriate activities. All
university policies for posting and solicitation must be strictly
followed or the organization may lose its posting and solicitation
privileges. See the section on Solicitation and Posting in
this handbook.
Organization Mailbox
The Campus Activities Office will provide an official mail-box
(if available) to each Registered Student Organization which
should be checked regularly by an official of the organization
for important university and university-related correspondence.
Fundraising
Registered Student Organizations may raise funds on and off
the campus of Texas State University-San Marcos. If raising
funds on the campus, they must follow all solicitation, posting
and reservations policies. If raising funds off-campus, the
organization must complete an off-campus solicitation permit.
Funding
Registered Student Organizations may apply for funds through
the Student Organizations Council or other various funding
sources on campus. These funds will typically be reserved
for leadership training or educational opportunities which
have the potential of positively affecting the university
community. See the section on SOC funding in this handbook.
University Sponsored Activities and Programs
Registered Student Organizations have the privilege of participating
as a group in all university sponsored activities and programs.
Good behavior and proper conduct will be expected at all times
during these activities and the organization will be responsible
for monitoring its members in attendance.
Social Activities/Parties
Registered Student Organizations have the privilege of sponsoring
and hosting social functions, parties and other similar events.
- Social activities, parties and similar events must comply
with the risk management policies specified by the organization's
Inter/National governing board (if applicable), the governing
council to which the student organization belongs, and the
Student Organization Risk Management Policies listed previously
in this handbook.
- The sponsoring organization(s) will be held accountable
for the actions of all members, pledges, alumni and/or guests
to any social function, party or similar event.
The Campus Activities Office will make its staff available
to all Registered Student Organizations and their individual
officers and members for educational programming, officer
transition, goal-setting and development, planning and budgeting,
recruitment, alumni relations, volunteer opportunities, group
development and personal guidance. The Campus Activities Office
will provide workshops and conferences to address these issues
and manuals, hand-outs, videos, and computer-assisted program
support as materials and equipment become available.
Demonstrations, campus displays,
speakers and similar programs
Registered Student Organizations
have the privilege of sponsoring and hosting demonstrations,
displays, speakers and similar educational or developmental
programs on the campus provided that:
- all appropriate reservations have been completed and
confirmed
- necessary security has been arranged and is paid for
by the organization
- the Campus Activities Office is notified 30 days in advance
of the planned activity.
