Hispanic Heritage Month 2007 Kick-Off Hispanic Heritage Month 2007 Kick-Off The Hispanic Heritage Month Kick-Off commemorates the start of the Texas State Hispanic Heritage Month program for 2007. This event will feature live salsa music, performed by Salsa de Rio, Hispanic student organization booths, voter registration booth and internship recruitment by the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities National Internship Program. There will also be free giveaways from the University Bookstore and free Hispanic Heritage Month t-shirts. This event is absolutely free and will serve to create an awareness of the growing Latino presence on campus. Hispanic Leaders In Criminal Justice Monday, September 20, 2007 The Criminal Justice Department invites you to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month by joining us in recognizing Hispanic Leaders in the Criminal Justice field. Panelists include law enforcement officers, state department officials, and members from the Texas State University Criminal Justice Department. The panelists will discuss research opportunities, share their experiences in the field of Criminal Justice, and answer questions from the audience. Refreshments will be served, so come join us in acknowledging the success that has made our panelists Hispanic Leaders in Criminal Justice. Hispanic Heritage Month Honorary Speaker Dr. Jose Angel Gutierrez Tuesday, September 25, 2007 Dr. Gutierrez is a political activist, founder of numerous grass-roots organizations and founder of the Raza Unida political party, which promotes civil rights and interests of Mexican American citizens. He is a dynamic and experienced speaker who sheds light on controversial issues that affect underrepresented populations. As a pivotal figure in the Chicano Civil Rights movements, Dr. Gutierrez speaks from personal experience of issues concerning disparity within underrepresented populations. What it Means to be Latino Student Panel Wednesday, October 3, 2007 Life is in Your Hands Blood Drive Co-Sponsored by Omega Delta Phi Blood saves lives and the demand for it in our community increases as our population grows and ages.
